I first met Siew-Wai in Manila for WSK Festival of the Recently possible. I attended the incredible KLEX Festival in 2017 where we met again, and eventually I came along to a SPIL where I had the chance to jam with her. I also jammed with Yong Yandsen in a crazy tenor saxophone spectacle.

our 19XX - hue, vietnam, 2017
We will team up once again with our good friends Trần Tuấn (painter) and Ana Fortuna (poetess) to present an interdisciplinary performance that will search for the points where visual art, poetry and music intersect. Within this, we will explore the loneliness and disappointment that has resulted from society's inability to progress from one millennium to the next with grace. We were all born into a time that had it's problems yet it was also a time of progress and hope. We were taught that anything was possible but, as we grew up, progress began to stagnate and our hope began to falter. Now, as the world regresses rapidly, we yearn for change yet we become more isolated as we struggle to keep our optimism from flickering out forever. We speak different languages, we are from different corners of the world and yet we can relate in our shared experiences, surrounded by a world that is crumbling around us. Throughout the performance poetry will become nonsense, music will become noise and saxophones will become useless hunks of metal as we reflect on the progress we have lost, our hope that is waning. Finally, we will sit down to a lesson on communist propaganda - still unsure if we can learn from our mistakes.
